HC Deb 18 January 1995 vol 252 c537W
Mr. Malcolm Bruce

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Royal Ordnance possesses or has possessed a section 5 permit allowing it to hold electric shock weapons.

Mr. Maclean

Electric shock weapons are covered by section 5(1)(b) of the Firearms Act 1968, as amended, which prohibits the unauthorised possession of any weapon of whatever description designed or adapted for the discharge of any noxious liquid, gas or other thing. Royal Ordnance holds authority under section 5(1)(b) of the 1968 Act. The terms of this authority are currently under review.
