To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress has been made following the Edwardes committee report on the development of national parks.

Part III of the Environment Bill, which is being considered in another place, includes provisions which take forward our commitments to primary legislation for the national parks. These commitments are set out in our 1992 policy statement, "Fit for the Future", which we issued in response to the report of the Edwardes committee.
