HC Deb 18 January 1995 vol 252 cc497-8W
Mr. Madden

To ask the Attorney-General how many times between April 1993 and February 1994 his advice was sought by(a) British Ministers, (b) British Government officials, (c) Irish Republic Ministers, (d) the Irish Attorney-General or (e) his officials about his view on the effect of lapse of time clause in the Extradition Act 1987 on the extradition of Brendan Smyth.

The Attorney-General

It is a well-established convention that the law officers do not normally disclose whether they have been asked to advise or the nature of their advice. The hon. Gentleman will however also note that the Extradition (Amendment) Act 1987 is not a United Kingdom statute but an Act of the Dail.
