HC Deb 16 January 1995 vol 252 c329W
Mr. Nicholas Brown

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is his strategy for economic development in the northern region.

Miss Widdecombe

The Government's strategy for economic development in the northern region is the same as for the United Kingdom as a whole—to promote sustained economic growth and rising prosperity, through a stable macro-economic environment and structural policies to improve long-term economic performance. The policies of the Department are aimed at achieving this objective, particularly by helping disadvantaged groups within the labour market.
