HC Deb 16 January 1995 vol 252 c351W
Mr. Welsh

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many homes in Scotland have been repossessed as a result of mortgage arrears for each of the years since 1982–83.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

We do not hold this information centrally. However, figures supplied by the Council of Mortgage Lenders suggest that, in 1993, 2,330 properties were taken into possession in Scotland. This represents 0.29 per cent. of the total number of properties with mortgages outstanding, which is around half the proportion for the United Kingdom as a whole.
