HC Deb 16 January 1995 vol 252 c283W
Mr. Spellar

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what action he has taken to protect British diplomats and other British nationals in Algeria.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

We have reduced the number of our diplomats in Algeria. Those that remain benefit from the protection of a team of Royal Military police. Other improvements have been made to the security of the embassy. The embassy remains in close touch with the remaining members of the British community in Algeria, who have been advised to leave unless they have effective protection. British nationals are strongly advised not to travel to Algeria.
