To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what trade is estimated to emanate from overseas aid to the third world in the current financial year; and if he will make a statement.

United Kingdom firms benefit directly from that part of the bilateral aid budget which is tied: in 1993 this was worth over £700 million. More importantly, aid supports economic growth and brings wider benefits to the UK as a major trading nation.
