To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many secure unit places for young offenders were created in the last year.

Secure accommodation is for all children looked after by local authorities, some of whom may be offenders or alleged offenders.

We announced on 22 April 1994 a new capital building programme to provide an additional 170 secure places.
