§ Mr. CurryThe average weekly local authority rent in England in 1978–279 was £5.90 and in 1994–95 it is provisionally estimated to be £35.68. After adjusting for inflation using the gross domestic product deflator, these figures represent an increase of 107 per cent. in real terms. The GDP deflator shows inflation of 192 per cent. over the period and the retail price index an increase of 183 per cent.
