To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement about the levels of gas prices and the powers of the regulator.

Since privatisation in 1986, gas prices excluding VAT for domestic customers have fallen in real terms by over 20 per cent., taking account of the recent price increase. The Director General of Gas Supply has played an important role in securing these benefits through the operation and re-setting of the price formula.
