HC Deb 10 January 1995 vol 252 c38W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what assessment he has made of the effect of non-wage labour costs on employment prospects.

Mr. Oppenheim

Non-wage labour costs are lower in the United Kingdom than in most countries of the European Union. I believe that any increase in such costs would worsen employment prospects as high non-wage labour costs make it more expensive for employers to create jobs.
