To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what consideration he has given to the impact of current and projected future housing association funding both on housing and job creation opportunities in the Gateshead metropolitan borough area.

The Housing Corporation estimates that allocations from its approved development programme in 1994–95 for new scheme approvals in the Gateshead metropolitan borough area will total some £2.5 million in 1994–95. Allocations issued for 1995–96 also amount to some £2.5 million. This is expected to enable 126 new social lettings to be approved in 1994–95, and 145 in 1995–96 as a result of the more cost effective use
