HL Deb 09 January 1995 vol 560 c13WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What progress has been made in improving liaison and co-operation between police and law-enforcement agencies in the United Kingdom and in Asia, concerning sexual exploitation of children; and whether liaison officers will be placed in tourist-receiving countries.

Baroness Blatch

Her Majesty's Government supports fully the work of the Paedophile Unit which is based with the National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS) in London. The unit is developing its national intelligence co-ordinating role with United Kingdom police forces. Representatives from NCIS and the Home Office are developing international co-operation within the framework of Interpol. There are no current plans to place liaison officers in tourist-receiving countries to deal exclusively with the problem, but the experiences of those countries who have appointed liaison officers are being examined.
