HC Deb 16 February 1995 vol 254 cc752-3W
Ms Eagle

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the effect of the proposals to change the law on unfair dismissal for part-time workers and on those working fewer than eight hours per week.

Mr. Oppenheim

Following the coming into effect on 6 February of the Employment Protection (Part-Time Employees) Regulations 1995, all employees, including those working fewer than eight hours per week, qualify to bring complaints of unfair dismissal after completing two years' continuous service. The effect of this change on business and employment opportunities will be carefully monitored.
