HC Deb 16 February 1995 vol 254 c779W
23. Mr. Beggs

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what consideration is being given to the establishment of an environment protection agency in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moss

The Environment Service of the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland has responsibility for the control of pollution, the conservation of the natural environment and the protection of the man-made heritage. The service is currently the subject of a prior options study. The Government will decide whether any proposals for change in the implementation of environmental policy in Northern Ireland should be made when the results of the study are known shortly.
