To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total expenditure on all forms of advertising by his Department and its agencies for each year since its 1979, in 1994 prices.

[holding answer 13 February 1995]: Expenditure by HM Treasury and the Chancellor's agencies on advertising in the period 1988–89 to 1993–94 at 1993–94 prices, and the spend to date in 1994–95 is shown in the table. Figures for other years could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
