HC Deb 14 February 1995 vol 254 cc627-8W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many dentists in(a) Inverclyde, (b) Strathclyde and (c) Scotland as a whole have ceased to treat NHS patients in each year since 1992.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

In order to provide NHS dental services a dentist must join a health board dental list. The table shows the number of individual principal dentists on health board lists in each of the four health board areas within Strathclyde region and Scotland as a whole; the number of new list numbers allocated; and list numbers cancelled. Information for individual local government districts and regional areas is not available. It is not possible to identify from these figures the number of individual dentists who may have withdrawn from providing NHS treatment as dentists who surrender one number may hold other numbers.
