§ Mr. HinchliffeTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what progress he has achieved with the establishment of a fund for prisoners of war held captive by the Japanese in world war two; and if he will list the donations so far received from Japanese companies trading within the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. GoodladWe have concluded that in present circumstances the proposal for a non-governmental fund to help former prisoners of war and civilian internees is unlikely to succeed. We are therefore exploring with the Japanese Government other possible ways of addressing this issue.
