§ Mr. HowardThe police and prison services now purchase their radio and high technology equipment directly from suppliers. The Department, through the radio frequency and communications planning unit, undertakes frequency regulation and management functions and provides strategic advice and technical guidance on radio matters to the police, fire, prison and494W other Home Office Departments. The cost of this service is approximately £940,000 in 1994–95.
