Mr. Vaz

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he has met the Governor of the Bank of England to discuss the activities of Standard Chartered bank.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I meet the Governor of the Bank of England regularly, and a wide range of issues is discussed.

Mr. Vaz

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he last met the chairman of Standard Chartered bank.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I cannot recall and I have no record of meeting the current chairman of Standard Chartered bank, or his predecessor, since my appointment as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Mr. Vaz

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he has called for a report from the Governor of the Bank of England on Standard Chartered bank's involvement in India.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I receive regular reports from the Bank of England on a range of issues.

Mr. Vaz

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what improvements he is to make to banking supervision following the involvement of Standard Chartered bank in India.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

None. The Banking Acts already give the Bank of England the powers it needs to supervise the world-wide operations of United Kingdom authorised institutions.
