To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on Malta's application for membership of the European Union.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The Corfu European Council agreed that Malta will be involved in the next phase of enlargement. The Council will review the application this year. We welcome the prospect of Maltese accession to the European Union.
