§ Miss WiddecombeLatest estimates from the summer 1994 labour force survey show that 64 per cent. of men aged 55 to 64 were economically active. Equivalent figures for 1987 and 1979—the earliest available comparable data—were 68 per cent. and 84 per cent. respectively.
