§ Sir Paul BeresfordThe Health and Safety Executive does not collect the information in the form requested. However, the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1985, RIDDOR, require work-related deaths, certain injuries and cases of occupational disease to be reported to the enforcing authority for the purposes of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. The table gives the overall rates for injuries reported under RIDDOR for each of the years since the regulations came into force on 1 April 1986.
Based on the global estimates for work-related ill health compiled by HSE from the 1990 labour force survey, which pointed to some 2.2 million cases of work-related ill health, it is estimated that work-related illness may affect some 6 per cent. of the adult population.
