§ Mr. JackConsumer spending in Wales on goods and services subject to VAT is a little under 5 per cent. of the United Kingdom total. On this basis, VAT in Wales was about £1.8 billion in 1993–94 and £2 billion in 1994–95. The income tax liability for residents of Wales was around £2.3 billion in 1993–94, excluding the impact of mortgage interest relief at source. Estimates are not available for later years.
