HC Deb 19 December 1995 vol 268 c1137W
Ms Harman

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will list "The Health of the Nation" targets that have not been met in the last five years. [6232]

Mr. Horam

"The Health of the Nation" strategy was launched in July 1992. It is essentially a medium-to-long-term strategy—target years vary in each key area and range from 1994 to 2010. Only one target was set for 1994, and this has not been met. It was:

To reduce the smoking prevalence among 11–15 year olds by at least 33 per cent. (from about 8 per cent. in 1988 to less than 6 per cent)".

The second progress report on "The Health of the Nation" strategy, "Fit for the Future", presents full details of progress towards targets. This document was published in July 1995, and copies are available in the Library.
