HC Deb 19 December 1995 vol 268 cc1061-2W
Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the breakdown of the £311 million of capital investment under the private finance initiative for the national health service which he announced in his oral statement to the Scottish Grand Committee on Monday 11 December 1995 at column 4. [6794]

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The figure announced in the Scottish Grand Committee was an estimate based on the current capital programme of the NHS in Scotland. It covers schemes which are likely to proceed or are already proceeding using the private finance solutions. The £311 million is derived from estimated expenditure over the following years:

  • 1996–97: £75 million
  • 1997–98: £113 million
  • 1998–99: £123 million.

Some schemes currently planned will continue beyond these three years. The values include capital expenditure only and are made up of expenditure projected for the new royal infirmary of Edinburgh, Western general hospital, Law and Hairmyres hospitals and a number of other schemes.
