To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the total revenue forgone from tax relief on appropriate personal pensions for individuals whose gross earnings are (i) £5,000 to £15,000, (ii) £15,000 to £25,000, (iii) £25,000 to £35,000, (iv) £35,000 to £45,000, (v) £ 45,000 to £55,000, (vi) £55,000 to £65,000, (vii) £65,000 to £75,000 and (viii) £75,000 to £82,000 per annum,(a) in aggregate and (b) per capita. [holding answer 11 December 1995]: Total income tax relief for contribution to appropriate personal pensions, including tax relief for the national insurance rebate, is provisionally estimated at £500 million for 1994–95. The average benefit per participant is about £85. I regret that a distribution of the relief by earnings of participants is not available.
