HC Deb 19 December 1995 vol 268 c1083W
Sir Irvine Patnick

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what action is available by his Department or trading standards officers if goods purporting to be made in Sheffield and so stamped are not; and if he will make a statement. [6681]

Mr. John M. Taylor

Under the Trade Descriptions Act 1968, it is a criminal offence to mark goods with a false indication of their place of manufacture or production. The Act empowers trading standards officers to prosecute cases of false origin marking in the courts.
