HL Deb 19 December 1995 vol 567 c136WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What was the outcome of the discussions between the United Nations Secretary General and the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister on the United Nations offer to allow Iraq to sell $2 billion worth of oil to finance the purchase of humanitarian supplies.

Lord Chesham

We understand that there has been no change in Iraq's position on UN Resolution 986 as a result of the meeting. We condemn the Iraqi regime's decision not to implement this resolution, which would help to alleviate the suffering of the Iraqi people.
