To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how much his Department paid to the private sector for goods and services in 1994–95. [6497]

My Department publishes each year in "UK Defence Statistics" an analysis of its expenditure on goods and services in the UK, broken down by industry group. The analysis for 1994–95 is not yet available; that for 1993–94 appears in the 1995 edition of "Defence Statistics", a copy of which is in the Library of the House. These figures do, however, include some expenditure on goods and services purchased from the public sector, such as rail transport and postal services. They exclude expenditure by the then Defence Research Agency.
