To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list all the sites in the United Kingdom being monitored for dioxin emissions. [7208]

The Ministry has collected cows' milk from farms around 29 industrial sites representative of processes that may release dioxins or related compounds. These sites are:

  • Chineham Municipal Waste Incinerator, Basingstoke, Hampshire
  • Otterbourne Municipal Waste Incinerator, Winchester, Hampshire
  • Brockhampton Municipal Waste Incinerator, Havant, Hampshire
  • Vine Street Incinerator Plant, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
  • Avonmouth Refuse Disposal Works, Bristol, Avon
  • Stoke Incineration Plant, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire
  • Coventry Waste Reduction Unit, Coventry, West Midlands
  • Eastcroft Municipal Waste Incinerator, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
  • Coleshill Sludge Disposal Plant, Coleshill, Warwickshire
  • Hillingdon Hospital Incinerator, Uxbridge, Middlesex
  • New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, West Midlands
  • Cherry Tree Hospital, Stockport, Greater Manchester
  • Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, Greater Manchester
  • ICI Chemicals and Polymers, Runcorn, Cheshire
  • Cleanaway Ltd. Incineration Plant, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire
  • Fine Organics Ltd., Middlesbrough, Cleveland
  • Polymeric Treatments Ltd., Kilamarsh, Derbyshire
  • CBDE, Porton Down, Wiltshire
  • Rechem International Ltd., Hythe, Southampton, Hampshire
  • John Betts Refiners, West Bromwich, West Midlands
  • Specialist Metal Services, Tilbury, Essex
  • West Thurrock Power Station, Essex
  • Tilbury Power Station, Essex
  • Castle Cement Ribblesdale Works, Clitheroe, Lancashire
  • Tip 2/1, Lostock Gralam, Northwith, Cheshire
  • Sutton Walls, Herefordshire

Results are available for seven of these sites and none exceeds the normal background range for dioxins in milk.
