To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what the cost of chauffeur-driven cars used by his Department was in each of the past five years. [5857]

Expenditure on the use of chauffeur-driven cars by the Cabinet Office including the Office of Public Service and its executive agencies, which includes expenditure for the Government and Opposition Whips, for the Leader of the Opposition and for ex-Prime Ministers, is as follows:

  • 1993–94: £544,900
  • 1994–95: £745,600
  • 1995–96: £455,800.

Notes:

Actual expenditure to end of November. The figure for the Cabinet Office excludes expenditure by the Office of the Prime Minister, which was the subject of a separate Answer by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister.

Figures for earlier years are available only at disproportionate cost.
