§ Mr. Hanley[holding answer 18 December 1995]: The ODA has contributed over £283 million since 1991 to the former Yugoslavia: £148 bilaterally and £135 million through the European Community. A further breakdown of bilateral expenditure, by financial year, is as follows:
- 1993–94: £51.8 million
- 1994–95: £43.508 million
- 1995–96: £14.15 million (latest figure).
We are unable to provide a separate breakdown for Bosnia.
The aim of the aid programme to the former Yugoslavia has been constant: to alleviate the suffering of people affected by war by getting food and medical relief into the country and assisting with infrastructure and utilities works.
