HC Deb 19 December 1995 vol 268 c1085W
Mr. Andrew Smith

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what account is taken of human rights records in determining whether to permit the export of United Kingdom arms to overseas Governments. [7067]

Mr. Oppenheim

My Department seeks the advice of the FCO in making decisions on individual export licence applications for military, security and para-military equipment, which are taken in the light of extensive information on the human rights situation. Export licences would not he granted for equipment likely to be used for internal repression.
