§ Mr. Austin MitchellTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proposals he has to give compensation to British-owned fishing vessels prevented from fishing by lack of getting similar compensation to that claimed by Spanish-owned British-registered vessels for stopping fishing under the Merchant Shipping Act 1988. § Mr. BaldryBritish-owned fishing vessels were not affected by the nationality provisions of the Merchant Shipping Act 1988. The question of compensation does not, therefore, arise.
§ Mr. MitchellTo ask the Minister of Agriculture. Fisheries and Food what proposals he has for requiring all British registered fishing vessels to land a specified proportion of the catch into the United Kingdom. [6008]
§ Mr. BaldryBritish fishing vessels are already required to land into the UK at least 50 per cent. by weight of total landings of all stocks subject to EC quota. If they fail to do this they must visit a United Kingdom port at least four times in every six month period. The visits must each be of at least eight hours duration and there must he an interval of at least 10 days between them. Notice must be given at least 24 hours in advance of a visit.
§ Dr. StrangTo ask the Minister of Agriculture. Fisheries and Food how many applications were received for funding under the EC grant schemes prior to 28 November for(a) fisheries processing and marketing, (b) port facilities and (c) aquaculture production for each country of the United Kingdom. § Mr. Douglas Hogg[holding answer 14 December 1995]: The number of applications and provisional applications for financial instrument for fisheries guidance (FIFG) funding under the Structures Regulation—EC Reg. 3699/93—prior to 28 November 1995 for fisheries marketing and processing, port facilities and aquaculture for each country of the United Kingdom is as follows:
