HC Deb 18 December 1995 vol 268 c836W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he was consulted by the European Commission about the booklet "Do You Still Believe All You Read in the Newspapers". [6532]

Mr. David Davis

The European Commission is responsible for its information budget and how it is spent. Questions on the European Commission's information policy should be addressed to the Commission.

Mr. Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what was the total cost of the booklet "Do You Still Believe All You Read in the Newspapers?" published by the European Commission; and what was the British Government's share of that cost. [6533]

Mr. Davis

We understand that the production cost for the booklet was £21,500, with a print run of 50,000 copies, at a cost of 43p for each copy.

The United Kingdom made no direct contribution to the cost of producing the booklet. The Commission budget is funded from the general budget of the European Communities, to which the UK contributes.
