HL Deb 18 December 1995 vol 567 cc121-2WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether at the recent meetings at the Foreign Office between Mr. Georgy Mamedov of the Russian Federation Ministry of Foreign Affairs and British officials, and his other meetings in London with the US Under-Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security (Ms Lynn Davis), new interpretations of the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty were discussed, and if so whether the treaty is now to be reinterpreted to allow certain US tests and deployments, and what effect the "reinterpretations" will have on the effectiveness of the United Kingdom's nuclear deterrent forces.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We regularly discuss questions of strategic arms control with the Russian Government. On the other points raised in the Question, I refer the noble Lord to the Answer I gave on 11 July, at columnWA 103.
