Mr. Watts

I have asked the chief executive of the Highways Agency to write to the hon. Member.

Letter from Lawrie Halynes to Mr. Graham Allen, dated 14 December 1995: As you know, the Minister for Railways and Roads, Mr. John Watts. has asked me to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question asking the Secretary of State for Transport, how many contracts for future road building have been cancelled consequent on the Budget review of the roads programme; and what has been the cost to his Department of paying compensation for cancelled contracts. No construction contracts have been cancelled as a result of the review. Commissions with design agents on 138 schemes are now being terminated, but no compensation has been paid to date.
