Letter from Lawrie Haynes to Mr. Graham Allen, dated 14 December 1995:
As you know, the Minister for Railways and Roads. Mr. John Watts, has asked me to reply to your recent Parliamentary Questions asking the Secretary of State for Transport. when Phases I and 2 of M1 Junctions 25 to 28 will he completed.Following the recent review of the roads programme. we will he concentrating on enhancing the junctions on this length of the M1 to make good use of the existing motorway. In taking any junction improvements forward. we shall take into account the responses to the public consultation into the widening proposals in September 1994. It is not possible to say yet when this work will he completed. The second phase of the scheme. which is the proposed widening to dual 4 lanes, is now in the longer term programme and the consultancy for this work is being terminated. Work on all longer term schemes will he taken forward as the main programme is completed.
