HC Deb 14 December 1995 vol 268 c809W
Mr. Malcolm Bruce

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is(a) the normal period of appointment and (b) the maximum cumulative period of appointment for members of the Committee on Safety of Medicines: and in what circumstances the maximum cumulative period of membership may be exceeded. [5926]

Mr. Malone

Members of the Committee on Safety of Medicines are normally appointed by the United Kingdom Health Ministers for three-year periods with the maximum cumulative period of appointment being six years, as set out in paragraph 4 of the 1970 regulations. Members can be, and are, reappointed for further terms of office. A new three-year period of appointment announced on 11 December, takes effect on 1 January 1996.
