HC Deb 11 December 1995 vol 268 c526W
Mr. Hinchliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to his answer to the hon. Member for Wakefield of 4 December,Official Report, column 42, on what date his Department first informed the Federation of Tour Operators about the outbreak of legionnaire's disease in Kusadasi; and if he will place in the Library copies of the letters sent to the Federation of Tour Operators and the Association of British Travel Agents. [5398]

Mr. Horam

The Department of Health has an agreement with the Association of British Travel Agents that notifications about outbreaks of disease will be sent to it and it, in turn, will notify the travel industry. The Department first wrote to the Federation of Tour Operators about the outbreak of legionnaire's disease in Kusadasi on 29 September, although informal contact had been made by telephone a day earlier. Copies of the letters to ABTA and the FTO will be placed in the Library.
