§ Mrs. Browning[holding answer 8 December 1995]: Horse sales are held at the market on a monthly basis and there has been a regular assessment of compliance by both the state veterinary service and the local authority. In reports submitted so far this year there has been no evidence of unnecessary suffering. The Ministry, however, continues to give advice to both the market and local authority on the standards to be observed.
