HC Deb 11 December 1995 vol 268 c478W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement about the relocation of the Gulf veterans medical assessment programme following the forthcoming closure of RAF Wroughton. [5315]

Mr. Soames

The Gulf war medical assessment programme is currently being relocated to the central medical establishment, Kelvin house, 32–34 Cleveland street, London W1P 6AU. The physical move will take place during the next week, and routine appointments will be available in January, after a necessary period of adjustment to re-establish the programme's facilities.

Dr. Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what has been the cost to his Department of the Gulf veterans medical assessment programme to date. [5317]

Mr. Soames

The assessments are funded from within my Department's normal secondary care programme and cannot be identified separately.

Dr. Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what medical tests were made on examinees under the Gulf veterans medical assessment programme. [5318]

Mr. Soames

All tests offered to individuals coming forward for assessment are tailored to the particular requirements of each patient after considering the medical and occupational history, the reported symptoms and clinical signs found on detailed initial examination. Possible tests include: a full blood assay, urinalysis, X-Ray, or CT/MRI scan, electrocardiograph, endoscopy and vitalograph studies. Further tests or referrals are available when required.
