To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) what was the total amount paid by his Department to consultants in connection with the introduction of the jobseeker's allowance; [4585]

(2) which firms of consultants were employed by his Department in connection with the introduction of the jobseeker's allowance. [4584]

Mr. Andrew Mitchell

The Department of Social Security has paid £2,224,000 through the Benefits Agency to consultants in connection with the introduction of jobseeker's allowance. The company used was Andersen Consulting.
