Letter from Lawrie Haynes to Sir Irvine Patnick, dated 5 December 1995: As you know, the Minister for Railways and Roads, Mr. John Watts, has asked me to reply to your Parliamentary Question asking the Secretary of State for Transport, between what dates roadworks will be removed from the M1 during the Christmas and New Year periods; and if he will make a statement. Roadworks will be removed from the M1 between Junction 38 and 42 from Friday 22 December at 06.00 hrs to Wednesday 3 January at 08.00 hrs. The works to widen the M1 between Junctions 21 and 21A are continuing and due for completion in March 1996. Three lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction through the widening works on this section of the M1 from Friday 22 December at 05.30 hrs to Tuesday 2 January at 21.00 hrs. There are no other roadworks planned on the M1 over the Christmas and New Year period.
