Mrs. Helen Jackson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish the proceedings, and representations made at the public inquiry into Yorkshire Water's request for an emergency drought order. [3449]

Mr. Curry

In line with usual practice, the record of the proceedings of, and representations made at, the public hearing into objections to the application by Yorkshire Water Services Ltd. for an emergency drought order will be the inspector's report.

Mrs. Jackson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish the inspector's report of the public inquiry into Yorkshire Water's request for an emergency drought order; and on what date he will be able to issue the report. [3451]

Mr. Curry

The inspector's report will be made public when a final decision is taken whether or not to make the emergency drought order sought by Yorkshire Water Services Ltd.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list each measure and drought order he has approved in the current year for the Yorkshire region indicating the dates of each approval, in respect of Yorkshire Water's statutory duty to provide a supply of drinking water. [3453]

My right hon. Friend has made the following drought orders on the application of Yorkshire Water Services Ltd:

1. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES Lm. (RIVER WHARFE) (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 18 August 1995.This order reduced the support to the River Wharfe which Yorkshire Water was required to give Grimwith reservoir and thus allowed more water from Grimwith to be available for public supply. It also allowed the Nidd Aqueduct to be used to take water from Grimwith, rather than just bring water to Grimwith.2. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 26 August 1995.This order authorised the restriction of non-essential uses of water in the Bradford area.3. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES Lm. (HEBDEN WATER AND RIVER WORTH) (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 7 September 1995.This order reduced the amount of compensation water that Yorkshire Water had to release from certain reservoirs.4. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (SILSDEN RESERVOIR) (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 31 August 1995.This order reduced the compensation water that had to be discharged from Silsden Reservoir.5. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (PENNINE RESERVOIRS) (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 2 October 1995.This order reduced the amount of compensation water that had to be discharged from a range of Pennine Reservoirs.6. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (CHELLOW DEAN RESERVOIRS) (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 2 October /995.This order allowed abstraction from reservoirs not normally used for drinking water abstraction.7. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (RIVER WHARFE) (AMENDMENT) (EMERGENCY DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 28 September 1995.This order allowed increased abstraction from the River Wharfc to provide water for Bradford.8. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (RIVER WHARFE) (DROUGHT) (EMERGENCY AMENDMENT) (EXTENSION) ORDER 1995.Order made 31 October 1995.This order extended the period for which Order No. 7 was valid.9. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (SILSDEN RESERVOIR No. 2) (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 30 October 1995.This order extended the period during which the amount of water required to be discharged from the reservoir was reduced.10. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (HAIGH COTE DAM) (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 31 October 1995.This order allowed abstraction from a reservoir not normally used for drinking water.11. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (RIVER OUSE) (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 3 November 1995.This order allowed increased abstractions from the River Ouse for supplies to Leeds.12. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (DROUGHT No. 2) ORDER 1995.Order made 3 November 1995.This order authorised the restriction of non-essential uses of water in Leeds, Selby and Wakefield.13. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (RIVER WHARFE) (ARTH1NGTON) (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 8 November 1995.This order allowed additional abstraction from the River Wharfe for supply to Leeds.14. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (PENNINE RESERVOIRS) (No. 2) (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 9 November 1995.This order reduced the requirements to discharge compensation water from a large number of Pennine reservoirs.15. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (HEBDEN WATER, RIVER WORTH AND PENNINE RESERVOIRS) (No. 3) ORDER 1995.Order made 15 November 1995.This order consolidated orders Nos. 3 and 5 and reduced further the required compensation water discharges.16. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (DROUGHT) (No. 3) ORDER 1995.Order made 20 November 1995.This order restricted non-essential uses of water in Harrogate area.17. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (LEIGHTON AND HAVERAH PARK RESERVOIRS) (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 17 November 1995.This order reduced the compensation water required to be discharged from these reservoirs.18. YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LTD. (ABSTRACTION LICENCES) (DROUGHT) ORDER 1995.Order made 21 November 1995.This order allowed all operators of licensed boreholes in Yorkshire to provide water to any premises in West Yorkshire, within the quantity limits in their licences.

My right hon. Friend has received the report of the inspector on the public hearing into objections to Yorkshire Water Services Ltd.'s application for an emergency drought order.

Mr. Curry

My right hon. Friend indicated on Friday 24 November that he had received the inspector's report, but that in present circumstances he did not propose to take a decision on the application: the matter would be kept under review.
