HC Deb 27 April 1995 vol 258 cc681-2W
Mr. Fraser

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) in what circumstances he would recommend to Parliament that the United Kingdom becomes a party to the Schengen agreement of 14 June 1985; [20361]

(2) whether the United Kingdom will join the Schengen agreement; and to what extent joining will be dependent on matters of immigration and asylum being taken out of the European Union. [20359]

Mr. Nicholas Baker

We have no intention of becoming a party to the Schengen agreement, which would be inconsistent with the maintenance of our system of frontier controls.
