HC Deb 26 April 1995 vol 258 c595W
Mr. Wicks

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what information his Department has in respect of the numbers of people who are entering private residential or nursing homes, where such care is publicly financed but does not involve the local authority social services department in any assessment of need, or in any expenditure. [19898]

Mr. Roger Evans

Information is not available in the form requested. In November 1994, the number of residents who were in receipt of income support that included residential allowance was 80,000. It is not known how many of these had been assessed or financially supported by social services. In addition, 201,000 residents have preserved rights to the higher levels of income support. It is not known how many of these receive financial support from the local authority.
