§ Mr. BowisAny consideration of the therapeutic use of cannabis would have to take account of the potential risks associated with short and long-term use. If, as a result of research, evidence became available that the quality, safety and efficacy of a cannabis-based preparation was suitable for the grant of a product licence under the Medicines Act 1968, the Misuse of Drugs Act controls, for which my right hon. and learned Friend the Home Secretary is responsible, could be modified to make such a medicine available to patients.
