HC Deb 25 April 1995 vol 258 c458W
Mr. Galbraith

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to alter the planning law on road side advertising; and if he will make a statement. [19749]

Mr. Kynoch

My right hon. Friend has no immediate plans to alter the planning law on road side advertising. However, the Scottish Office Environment Department is currently reviewing the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (Scotland) Regulations 1984, with a view to amending and updating this legislation. A public consultation document on this subject will issue later this year.

Separately, the roads directorate of the Scottish Office Industry Department has, in conjunction with the Scottish tourist board, been reviewing the provision of tourist signposting in Scotland, and has now issued a consultation document, proposing changes to the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 1994. The results of this consultation will be known during the summer.
